Photography Competition for Kids Aged 5 to 12

Young photographers in Sydney are encouraged to participate in the Little Sydney Lives photography competition. This initiative, part of the City of Sydney’s Art & About program, invites children aged 5 to 12 to capture their unique perspectives of the city. Submissions are open until 11:59pm on 17th May.

Participants have the opportunity to showcase creativity by capturing what life in Sydney means to them. This could include scenes of the iconic harbour, the bustling streets, or the vibrant multicultural neighborhoods. The goal is to depict everyday moments and serene sunrises through the eyes of young artists.

The Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore AO, emphasised that the competition provides a platform for young photographers to express how they perceive Sydney. She stated, “Every young person sees Sydney through a different lens and this is a no-holds-barred opportunity to showcase their creativity.”

Images for the competition can be taken using a camera or phone, as long as they are in landscape orientation and do not exceed 5MB in size. A distinguished panel of judges will evaluate the entries based on originality and the depiction of Sydney life.

Exhibition and Prizes

Up to 20 finalist images will be selected for an exhibition at Customs House, which will be on display for up to a year. The exhibition opening on 26th September will announce the winner and runner-up. The winner will receive an OM System camera pack valued at $2,199, while the runner-up will receive a pack worth $1,299.

Little Sydney Lives is an integral part of the City of Sydney’s efforts to nurture young talent and enrich the cultural landscape. The competition is a celebration of the next generation’s creativity and their perception of the city’s essence.

Following the announcement, submissions are pouring in, showcasing diverse interpretations of Sydney life. These entries highlight not only the city’s physical beauty but also the vibrant human interactions that define it.
