Event Supports Dementia Awareness and Health
The 2026 Geelong Memory Walk & Jog event is set for Sunday, 3rd May at Eastern Beach Reserve. Dementia Australia organizes this event to raise awareness and funds for those impacted by dementia. Currently, over 446,500 Australians live with dementia, and this event plays a crucial role in supporting them.
Participants can choose from a 2km walk, a 6.5km walk/jog, or an 8.5km timed run. The event’s proceeds will fund essential support, education, and resources for people living with dementia and their carers. Dementia Australia aims to provide ongoing assistance to the over 1.7 million people involved in dementia care across the nation.
Research indicates that physical activity and social engagement are vital in reducing the risk of developing dementia. Although age, genetics, and family history are unchangeable, staying active can help delay or reduce dementia’s impact. The Memory Walk & Jog highlights the importance of being active for brain health.
Ways to Participate or Support
For those unable to attend on 3rd May, the MyWay initiative offers an alternative. Individuals can organize their own Memory Walk & Jog by choosing a preferred date and location. Registration for this option is available online at www.memorywalk.com.au/get-involved/mw.
Dementia Australia remains a trusted source for information and services concerning dementia. The National Dementia Helpline, reachable at 1800 100 500, provides support and information. An interpreter service is also available for those who require it.
