Event Unites Community for Brain Health

The Memory Walk & Jog is set to return to Melbourne on 17th May, with this year’s event taking place at Albert Park. The event supports brain health and raises funds for Dementia Australia. Last year, the event attracted over 5,000 participants, highlighting the community’s commitment to the cause.

Participants can choose between walking, jogging, or running distances of 3km, 4.5km, or 10km. The event aims to bring together the community in support of people affected by dementia. In 2025, the event raised over $200,000, demonstrating its impact.

Dementia Australia uses the event to raise funds that provide essential support, education, and resources for individuals living with dementia, as well as their families and carers. More than 1.7 million people are involved in the care of over 446,500 Australians living with dementia.

Local resident Charlotte Vermeersch, whose father was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia in 2019, expressed her enthusiasm for participating. “I’m naturally a doer, so taking part in something like this feels like a positive way to honour my dad’s life,” she said. Charlotte hopes the event will bring more awareness to the different symptoms of dementia.

Event Details and Participation

The Memory Walk & Jog provides an opportunity to highlight the benefits of physical activity and social connection in supporting brain health. Evidence suggests that staying active can reduce or delay the risk of developing dementia. While age, genetic factors, and family history cannot be changed, maintaining an active lifestyle can have a positive impact.

For those unable to attend, Dementia Australia offers a ‘MyWay’ option, allowing participants to organise their own walk or jog at a time and place that suits them. Registration is available on the Memory Walk website, encouraging more people to engage with the cause.
