Join the Event at Griffith Park on 31st May
The 2026 Newcastle Memory Walk & Jog is set to take place on Sunday, 31st May at Griffith Park. As part of Dementia Australia’s largest annual fundraising initiative, this event aims to support Australians living with dementia.
Why Participate in the Memory Walk & Jog?
Dementia Australia’s Memory Walk & Jog events unite communities to raise funds and awareness for the 446,500 Australians currently living with dementia and the 1.7 million people involved in their care. This year, 14 events are scheduled across the country, providing ample opportunities for participation.
More than 145,700 people in New South Wales are living with dementia, making it the leading cause of death in Australia. Without significant intervention, the number of Australians living with dementia is projected to exceed one million by 2065.
Griffith Park will transform into a hub of activity, welcoming participants of all ages and abilities. People can choose to walk, jog, or run, showing their support for those affected by dementia. MC Jenny Marchant will host the event, fostering an environment where attendees can connect and share their stories.
Nationwide, in 2026, 14 Memory Walk & Jog events are scheduled, enabling Australians everywhere to take part. These events offer a platform to raise much-needed funds for Dementia Australia. This support is crucial for delivering vital services and expanding research programs.
The Newcastle event contributes to a broader effort to encourage brain health through physical activity. As dementia impacts more families, raising awareness and funds becomes increasingly important. Funds raised will help Dementia Australia offer essential support services and develop life-changing programs.
For those unable to attend the Newcastle event, the MyWay initiative provides a flexible alternative. Participants can organize their own walks or jogs at a time and place that suits them. Details for organizing a MyWay event can be found on the official Memory Walk & Jog website.
Dementia Australia continues to be a trusted source of information, providing education and support to those affected by dementia. For support, people can contact the National Dementia Helpline at 1800 100 500. An interpreter service is also available, ensuring assistance is accessible to everyone.
