Community Gathers for Dementia Support

The 2026 Redcliffe Memory Walk & Jog is scheduled for Saturday, 6th June at Scarborough Beach Park. This event unites the community to promote brain health and support those affected by dementia.

Organised by Dementia Australia, the Memory Walk & Jog is a major community event. Participants have the option to walk, jog, or run distances of 2.5km, 5.5km, or 10km. The event’s goal is to raise vital funds for providing support, education, and resources to individuals living with dementia, along with their families and carers.

Albany Creek resident Joanne Woods will participate to honour her father and increase dementia awareness. She stated, "My motivation for joining the walk is to honour my father, raise awareness, and much-needed funds to hopefully one day find a cure."

Importance of Physical Activity

The Memory Walk & Jog highlights the positive impact of physical activity and social connections on brain health. Evidence indicates that remaining active and engaged can help reduce or delay the risk of developing dementia, despite age, genetics, and family history being immutable.

Those interested in joining the event or volunteering can register on the official website. For individuals unable to attend, organizing a MyWay event allows them to choose their own date and location to participate.

Dementia Australia supports over 446,500 Australians living with dementia and over 1.7 million carers. The organisation advocates for positive change and funds essential research. For support, the National Dementia Helpline is available at 1800 100 500, with interpreter services provided.

In 2026, the Redcliffe Memory Walk & Jog continues to offer the community an opportunity to unite, have fun, and make a difference. This event emphasises the societal commitment to combat dementia through awareness and fundraising efforts.

Individuals unable to attend can still contribute by organizing their own MyWay event. By visiting www.memorywalk.com.au/get-involved/mw, they can register their personalized event to show support.

Dementia Australia remains the trusted source of information, education, and services for those impacted by dementia. The organisation is committed to enabling affected individuals to live as well as possible. More information is available at dementia.org.au.
