Community Unites for Dementia Awareness

The 2026 Memory Walk & Jog is scheduled for 7th June at Pratten Park, Gold Coast. This event, organized by Dementia Australia, aims to raise awareness and funds for dementia support. Participants can choose to walk, jog, or run distances of 2.5km, 5km, or 10km.

Holly Burge, a local resident, will participate to honour her mother and increase awareness about dementia. She shared, “I’m running for my mum, for families like ours and for the families who have already had to say goodbye far too soon.” Holly’s personal connection to the cause is profound, as her own mother is battling dementia at 62 years old.

“After seeing close friends lose their mum to dementia, and now watching my own mum battle this disease, I know just how urgent more awareness, support and research are,” Holly said. This event is an opportunity to highlight the role of physical activity in supporting brain health.

Supporting Dementia Research and Care

Funds raised will support Dementia Australia’s work, providing invaluable support, education, and resources for people living with dementia, their families, and carers. The organisation supports over 446,500 Australians living with dementia and advocates for positive change in research.

For those unable to attend, there is an option to organize a MyWay event, allowing individuals to choose their own date and location for a walk or jog. More details are available at www.memorywalk.com.au.

Dementia Australia is a trusted source of information and services, advocating for better treatments and support systems. For assistance, contact the National Dementia Helpline at 1800 100 500.
