Transforming Product Data for AI Systems

NielsenIQ introduced NIQ Product Intelligence on June 2nd, aiming to enhance AI-driven commerce by transforming fragmented product data into structured intelligence. This new solution benefits brands and retailers by improving how AI systems identify and recommend products.

The solution tackles fragmented data by creating a unified intelligence layer that standardises attributes and enriches product data. AI systems efficiently identify, understand, and recommend products across various digital and physical channels.

Troy Treangen, Chief Product Officer at NIQ, stated, “Product Intelligence creates a structured, interoperable product layer that resolves fragmented data, enriches attributes, and enables AI systems to identify, compare, and recommend products with far greater accuracy.”

Global Impact and Infrastructure

Built on NIQ’s existing global commerce data assets, the solution leverages relationships with over 8,900 retailers in 90 countries. It includes a catalogue of over 246 million unique items and maintains more than 10 billion product attributes, supporting brands in creating AI-ready product data.

The launch is the first major offering in NIQ’s Commerce Intelligence portfolio, which combines data assets, product content capabilities, and harmonization expertise. NIQ will showcase Product Intelligence at its annual C360 event in San Antonio from June 8th to 11th.

Products lacking structured, enriched data risk invisibility to recommendation engines, AI assistants, and autonomous purchasing agents in AI-mediated commerce environments. Product Intelligence helps structure and enrich product data to enable AI systems to better interpret consumer needs and surface relevant recommendations.

AI-driven commerce experiences now require a deeper understanding of consumer intent and context. Requests like “a healthy chocolate brownie alternative that still feels indulgent” or “a premium low-alcohol drink for a dinner party” are interpreted more accurately with enriched data.

NIQ Product Intelligence is currently available in the United States. Expansion plans will be evaluated over time. For further details and event registration, visit the NIQ C360 event page.
