NSW Government Invests $100 Million in EV Plan

Announcing a significant initiative, the New South Wales Government today revealed the 2026 Electric Vehicle Strategy, allocating $100 million to boost charging infrastructure across the state. This strategy targets the elimination of charging gaps in regional, remote, and suburban areas, facilitating greater electric vehicle (EV) adoption.

With the support of the federal government’s Electric Car Discount, the affordability of EVs for Australians has greatly improved, removing the upfront price barrier that previously hindered widespread adoption. This federal discount, coupled with enhanced charging facilities, is set to make cleaner, cost-efficient vehicles accessible to more people.

“We congratulate the NSW Government on their 2026 NSW Electric Vehicle Strategy and its $100 million investment to make EVs accessible to more Australians,” said Rohan Martin, CEO of the National Automotive Leasing and Salary Packaging Association (NALSPA).

Federal Discounts Encourage EV Adoption

In Sydney’s outer suburbs such as Kellyville, Marsden Park, Baulkham Hills, and Westmead, the federal Electric Car Discount has had a notable impact on EV affordability. By combining this discount with new charging infrastructure, the government aims to provide Australians with access to cleaner, more cost-effective vehicles.

Aligning demand-side incentives with charging infrastructure is crucial, Martin emphasised. “Demand-side incentives and charging infrastructure is the combination that makes the EV transition a reality,” he stated. This synergy is pivotal to accelerating EV uptake nationwide.

Targeting areas highly affected by fuel price volatility, the strategy prioritises developing charging facilities. This ensures that families and workers in these regions can reap the financial benefits of EVs, such as lower fuel and maintenance costs.

Providing essential infrastructure, the NSW Government’s investment is critical to meeting the growing demand for electric vehicles. This initiative aims to ensure a seamless transition to electric mobility, offering prospective EV buyers the assurance of reliable charging options.

At the pump, Australians are reminded of the financial advantages of EVs. The Electric Car Discount converts interest into commitment, enabling workers to access an EV through their pre-tax salary without upfront costs, offering immediate savings on fuel and running costs. the availability of charging facilities is vital for this financial model to succeed.

Prioritizing infrastructure in outer suburbs and regional and remote communities is a key focus of the NSW Government’s Strategy. Areas like Kellyville, Marsden Park, Baulkham Hills, and Westmead have particularly seen benefits from these efforts. The families and workers most vulnerable to fuel price fluctuations often rely on the Discount and novated leasing to make owning an electric car financially viable.
