Community Involvement Key to Conservation Efforts

The Australian Koala Foundation (AKF) has announced that Save the Koala Month will return from 1st to 30th September. This annual event focuses on rallying communities to protect koalas and their habitats, vital for the species’ survival.

Individuals, schools, workplaces, and community groups are urged to participate in activities promoting koala conservation. Suggested activities include organizing school events, workplace morning teas, and community fundraisers.

Engagement and Activities

Participants can further support the cause by sharing educational resources, making direct donations, shopping at the Save the Koala Shop, adopting a koala, or buying trees through the AKF’s Plant-A-Tree program. The programme plants trees at Quinlans, an AKF Environmental Reserve, supporting koala habitats and broader environmental restoration efforts.

Fundraising remains a central theme, as AKF encourages creative contributions. Whether through local events or online donation drives, every effort is crucial for conservation. In 2022, supporters raised over $1 million, showcasing the power of collective action.

Save the Koala Day is scheduled for Friday, 25th September, serving as a key date for fundraising and awareness activities. This day provides a focal point for supporters to rally around.

The AKF aims to highlight the importance of koalas, one of Australia’s iconic animals. Despite their popularity, koalas face numerous threats, including habitat loss and climate change, necessitating immediate action.

This year’s campaign details will be shared soon. Meanwhile, AKF is encouraging Australians to save the dates and start planning how they will participate in these vital conservation efforts.

AKF’s educational resources provide valuable information on koala conservation, helping to inform and inspire action among Australia’s communities and beyond. Since its inception, Save the Koala Month has reached over 500,000 people worldwide.

By involving a wide range of participants, from individuals to large community groups, Save the Koala Month aims to make a significant impact on conservation efforts, ensuring a brighter future for koalas.
