Collaboration Focuses on AI Infrastructure and Models

SYDNEY — SLB has announced a significant expansion of its collaboration with NVIDIA to develop and deploy AI infrastructure and models for the energy sector. This new initiative aims to harness AI to improve efficiency and decision-making, according to the companies. The collaboration will involve the creation of modular data centre infrastructure and an ‘AI Factory for Energy,’ designed to process large datasets more efficiently. The companies will optimise AI models using NVIDIA’s latest technology, SLB confirmed.

Strategic Elements of the Partnership

SLB has been named the modular design partner for NVIDIA’s DSX AI factories, which will streamline the construction and deployment of data centers. The AI Factory for Energy will serve as a reference environment for deploying domain-specific generative AI models, SLB reported. Demos Pafitis, SLB’s CTO, emphasised the importance of data and domain expertise in AI development, stating, ‘We’re enabling the energy industry to deploy AI at scale.’ Vladimir Troy from NVIDIA supported this, noting AI’s role in transforming energy data into actionable insights.

This announcement follows a trend of increased AI integration in the energy sector, as companies seek to improve operational efficiency and sustainability. The partnership between SLB and NVIDIA, which began in 2008, reflects the industry’s shift towards more comprehensive AI applications. Both companies are committed to leveraging their expertise to provide innovative solutions that address current challenges in the energy sector. As part of the initiative, new AI models will be developed to enhance predictive maintenance, optimise energy consumption, and reduce carbon footprints, ensuring a more sustainable future.
