Cycling Stars to Compete on Home Soil

Slovenia is set to host the 2026 UEC Road European Championships from October 2 to 7, marking the largest cycling event in the nation’s history. The event will draw 800 cyclists from over 50 countries, featuring prominent Slovenian stars such as Tadej Pogačar and Primož Roglič. Fans will also see Urška Žigart compete on familiar roads.

Over five days, the Championships will offer a range of junior and elite road races and time trials. Routes will begin in Ljubljana and pass through Šenčur, Medvode, Kranj, Preddvor, and other locations. This will showcase Slovenia’s diverse landscapes.

Enrico Della Casa, President of the Union Européenne de Cyclisme, emphasised Slovenia’s cycling achievements: “The European Championships will take place in a country that is experiencing a true golden age of cycling. Exceptional results and new talent development highlight Slovenia’s strength.”

Organizers expect approximately 300,000 spectators along the routes, and over 16.5 million viewers will follow the event via television and digital platforms. This exposure will significantly raise Slovenia’s profile in the global cycling community.

The Slovenian Tourist Board is actively promoting the Championships. A dedicated landing page provides fans and visitors with comprehensive travel and tourist information. This effort is expected to boost tourism.

As the event approaches, cycling enthusiasts eagerly anticipate witnessing high-caliber competition and a spectacular showcase of European cycling. The participation of Slovenian cyclists in their national team jerseys adds to the excitement.

In addition to highlighting Slovenia’s cycling prowess, the Championships will enhance tourism and provide economic benefits. A promotional video available online offers a glimpse into the event’s potential impact.
