Community Effort for Dementia Awareness
Last weekend, more than 1,490 participants gathered for the 2026 Sydney Memory Walk & Jog. They raised an impressive $267,000 to support individuals impacted by dementia.
People of all fitness levels walked, ran, and jogged to the finish line. The event promotes physical activity, which benefits brain health.
Dementia Australia CEO, Professor Tanya Buchanan, expressed gratitude to everyone involved. “There was an incredible turnout from the Sydney community this year yet again, in support of the many people impacted by dementia across the country,” she said.
Dedicated volunteers ensured the event ran smoothly and safely. Professor Buchanan acknowledged their role in making the event memorable.
Nationwide Efforts for Dementia Support
This event is part of a series of 14 Memory Walk & Jog events held across Australia in 2026. These events offer a platform for people impacted by dementia and their supporters to come together, share stories, and raise awareness.
For those unable to attend, the MyWay initiative offers an alternative. Individuals can organise their own walks or jogs, choosing their own date and location. Registration details are available at www.memorywalk.com.au/get-involved/mw.
It offers trusted information, education, and services to over 446,500 Australians living with dementia, and the more than 1.7 million involved in their care.
The organisation advocates for positive change and supports vital research in the field of dementia. Their efforts ensure that people impacted by dementia can live as well as possible.
Dementia Australia encourages the use of Dementia-Friendly Language Guidelines in reporting.
