Toy Story 5 stays number one while Supergirl enters the top three
Toy Story 5 stayed at number one at the Australian box office for a second week, taking $6.17 million over the weekend.
The animated film has now made $18.12 million in total, with animation leading the weekend as Toy Story 5 and Minions & Monsters filled the top two positions.
Minions & Monsters opened in second place with $3.36 million, while Supergirl debuted at number three with $2.43 million.
Obsession landed fourth in its seventh weekend, adding $1.42 million and lifting its total box office to $20.91 million. Disclosure Day, starring Emily Blunt, rounded out the top five with $935k for the weekend and $8.27 million overall.
The top 10 films accounted for 89.48% of the total national gross box office for the weekend.
HOYTS said admissions were up 16% year on year as the industry approached the halfway point of the year. The cinema chain also said it finished the weekend in the number one position for the 19th week in a row.
Five HOYTS sites placed in the top 10 this week: Carousel at number one, Chadstone at number two, Melbourne Central at number four, Karrinyup at number eight and Highpoint at number nine.
Dear You opened in sixth place with $755k for the weekend, with advance screenings taking its total to $789k.
Backrooms placed seventh, adding $424k and bringing its cumulative box office to $13.92 million. Scary Movie took eighth with $373k, lifting its total to $8.46 million.
Michael earned another $233k in its tenth weekend, taking its total to $45.55 million. HOYTS said the film is now the highest-grossing biopic of all time.
Carry On Jatta 4 completed the top 10, opening with $223k.
Several new releases are due this week. Jackass: Best and Last arrives from 2nd July, with Johnny Knoxville and the cast returning for a final big-screen outing. The film will be available in D-BOX.
Kiki’s Delivery Service will screen in advance in IMAX at select locations from 2nd July. Alpha, a Hindi action thriller starring Alia, Sharvari and Bobby Deol, opens at select locations from 3rd July.
Nagabandham – The Secret Treasure, a Telugu film exploring ancient Vishnu temples and the ritual of Nagabandham, will also be available at select locations from 3rd July.
