First new SCREENX auditorium opens at Broadway on 30th July 2026

HOYTS Cinemas will add 12 new SCREENX auditoriums across Australia and New Zealand by 2028. The agreement expands HOYTS’ partnership with CJ 4DPLEX and lifts its total number of SCREENX screens to 14.

The first new SCREENX site will open at HOYTS Broadway on 30th July 2026. HOYTS has timed that launch for the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and tickets are now available at www.hoyts.com.au.

The rollout will spread across HOYTS’ network of 61 locations by 2028. This will become the largest SCREENX deployment by any cinema chain in Australia and New Zealand.

Existing SCREENX cinemas at HOYTS Melbourne Central and HOYTS Blacktown helped drive the expansion. Both venues rank among the top-performing SCREENX locations in Australia.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

SCREENX extends the picture onto the left and right walls of the auditorium. As a result, the format creates a 270-degree panoramic image around the audience.

CJ 4DPLEX and HOYTS are using Spider-Man: Brand New Day as the first film in this next phase. The companies describe it as the first Hollywood blockbuster shot for SCREENX through a collaboration that carried the format from production to theatrical exhibition.

HOYTS argues that this immersive setup cannot be replicated in a home entertainment environment. That point matters as cinema chains compete with streaming services and larger home screens.

Damian Keogh, HOYTS Group President and CEO, said: “The response to SCREENX from audiences across Australia has been strong, and we look forward to expanding this premium experience across our network.”

He linked the new investment to the results at Melbourne Central and Blacktown. Those two cinemas, he said, show growing demand for premium and immersive movie formats.

By 2028, the circuit plans to operate 14 SCREENX auditoriums across Australia and New Zealand. That total will rise from the two sites already running at Melbourne Central and Blacktown.

Meanwhile, the broader agreement strengthens HOYTS’ relationship with CJ 4DPLEX across both countries. After the Broadway opening on 30th July 2026, the company will keep adding sites until the 12-location rollout finishes in 2028.
