Economic Boost from Local Purchases
Comedian Andy Lee has been appointed as the ambassador for Australian Made Week 2026, which will run from 18th to 24th May. This announcement coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Australian Made logo, a symbol trusted by 93% of Australians, according to recent surveys. The iconic logo is the most trusted country-of-origin symbol in the nation.
This year marks four decades since the launch of the Australian Made logo. Recent research by Roy Morgan suggests that if each household spent an extra $20 weekly on Australian Made products, the economy could receive an additional $11 billion annually, creating nearly 20,000 new jobs. Impressively, 99% of Australians aged 18 and over are aware of the logo.
Andy Lee, known for his roles as a comedian, radio, podcast, and TV host, is passionate about supporting local industries. He stated, “Choosing to buy locally made goods is a simple habit, but it creates a big impact, from generating and supporting local jobs to boosting local economies.”
Support for Local Industries
Lee emphasised the importance of supporting Australian businesses, innovators, and entrepreneurs. “My business partners and I have made a conscious decision to support Australian product and produce because we know it leads the world in quality as well as safety standards,” he remarked. According to Andy, sharing Australian culture with the world brings him joy, and he is thrilled to spotlight homegrown favourites and newcomers.
Australian Made Chief Executive Ben Lazzaro praised Andy Lee’s appointment, noting, “Andy has been a long-time champion for Australian-made, both here and overseas. His involvement comes as the Australian Made logo celebrates its 40-year milestone.”
During Australian Made Week, the stories of 4,500 businesses registered with the Australian Made Campaign will be highlighted. Australians are encouraged to “swap their shop” and choose local products, ranging from everyday groceries to high-end items. Roy Morgan Research shows that 87% of consumers believe buying locally is important, and 56% frequently purchase Australian-made products.
Further details and opportunities to engage with Australian Made Week can be found at australianmadeweek.com.au. The public is encouraged to share their purchases on social media using #AustralianMadeWeek, celebrating the talent and hard work of Australian makers. Andy Lee hopes his involvement will encourage people to support the incredible things created by local makers on home soil.
