Integration of Nitinol and Laser Processing into Platform
On 19th May 2026, AP Technologies announced its acquisition of Blueacre Technology, which enhances its catheter platform with advanced nitinol and precision laser processing capabilities. This acquisition marks AP Technologies’ first European operation, located in Dundalk, Ireland.
Blueacre Technology is renowned for its expertise in laser micromachining and nitinol processing. The company brings nearly two decades of experience to AP Technologies’ existing catheter manufacturing capabilities. This acquisition aligns with the strategy of advancing minimally invasive medical devices.
CEO Charles Tang of AP Technologies stated, “This acquisition marks the first step in extending our advanced catheter technologies platform, adding nitinol and precision laser processing to our vertically integrated catheter capabilities.”
Expanding Capabilities in Europe
AP Technologies will utilise Blueacre’s skills in femtosecond and picosecond laser cutting, alongside its electropolishing and rapid prototyping services. These capabilities will complement AP Technologies’ offerings, including PTFE liners, FEP heat shrink tubing, and catheter assembly.
Dr. David Gillen, founder of Blueacre Technology, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Blueacre Technology is delighted to become part of the AP Technologies global team. We are excited to bring nearly 20 years of experience in nitinol and advanced laser processing to our new joint team.”
The acquisition ensures that the Blueacre brand and its operations in Dundalk remain intact. Dr. Gillen will continue to lead the facility, positioning AP Technologies to further integrate and develop next-generation interventional devices.
Headquartered in Singapore, AP Technologies expands its global presence with operations now in the USA, China, Vietnam, and Ireland. The company collaborates with top medical device OEMs, focusing on innovations in minimally invasive technology.
Founded in 2002, Blueacre Technology has been a leader in laser micromachining, offering services such as femtosecond and picosecond laser cutting, laser welding, and on-site rapid prototyping. This acquisition allows AP Technologies to provide a comprehensive solution to its partners by combining polymeric and metallic processes under one roof.
The company’s new European base in Dundalk, located in Ireland’s medtech corridor, offers a strategic advantage for expanding its reach in the region. AP Technologies aims to enhance its product offerings in the competitive medical device industry through this integration.
