ART play begins Melbourne season from 22nd April following sell-out runs
The stage production ART will open at the Comedy Theatre in Melbourne from 22nd April, featuring Richard Roxburgh, Damon Herriman and Toby Schmitz. The play follows sell-out seasons in Sydney and Brisbane and continues its national run with a Melbourne season scheduled through to 17th May.
The production presents a contemporary comedy written by Yasmina Reza and translated by Christopher Hampton. Lee Lewis directs the Melbourne season, supported by a creative team that includes Charles Davis on set and costume design, Paul Jackson on lighting, and David Letch for System Sound. Rodney Rigby produces the work alongside Marriner Group, Paul Wheelton AM and State Theatre Company South Australia.
ART centres on three friends whose relationship is tested after one purchases an expensive painting. As a result, disagreements escalate and expose tensions within a long-standing friendship. The narrative focuses on how differing perspectives can disrupt personal dynamics and trigger broader conflict.
Moreover, the production has received international recognition, including the Tony Award for Best Play and the Olivier Award for Best Comedy. These awards position the play as a significant work within contemporary theatre programming.
