Limited-edition deli chicken goes on sale for $14

Coles has launched a limited-edition Butter Chicken Hot Roast RSPCA Approved Chicken in stores across Australia for $14 each.

The new deli item became available nationally on 8 July 2026 and will stay on sale while stocks last.

Available from Coles deli counters, the product gives the retailer’s hot roast chicken a takeaway-inspired butter chicken flavour.

According to Coles, the recipe combines rich, aromatic butter chicken spices with the convenience of its hot roast chicken range.

At $14, the chicken targets shoppers who want a quick weeknight meal at home instead of takeaway.

Coles Circle research from March 2026 found three in five Australians are cutting back on eating out and takeaway.

The same March 2026 survey found 54% are cooking more meals at home, based on 9,328 respondents.

Karen O’Connor on 20 million sales

Karen O’Connor, Coles General Manager for Meat, Deli and Seafood, tied the launch to strong demand for the chain’s roast chicken line.

Last year, Coles sold more than 20 million RSPCA Approved hot roast chickens.

“Our hot roast chicken is Coles’ second highest-selling product, affectionately known by many Aussies as the ‘bachelor’s handbag’, so we’re excited to offer customers a delicious new way to enjoy it,” O’Connor said.

O’Connor also said customers already know butter chicken as a familiar comfort flavour for busy weeknight meals.

Shoppers can serve the chicken with Coles Microwavable Basmati Rice, Coles Garlic Naan and yoghurt or raita.

Coles said that combination creates a meal in minutes using supermarket staples sold alongside the deli line.

After dinner, customers can shred the chicken into wraps, pizzas, salads or rice bowls for leftovers.

Following the 8 July 2026 launch, customers in Coles stores nationally can buy the Butter Chicken Hot Roast RSPCA Approved Chicken until stock runs out.
