Significant Investment for AI Infrastructure

On 9 April 2026, Digital Realty unveiled its plan to invest nearly S$7 billion in Singapore. The company aims to reinforce Singapore’s position as a primary AI infrastructure hub in the Asia Pacific region with this substantial investment. Recognised as the world’s largest cloud- and carrier-neutral data centre platform, Digital Realty is committed to expanding its capabilities in the area.

Serene Nah, Managing Director and Head of Asia Pacific at Digital Realty, stated, “Singapore is emerging as a critical hub for AI inference in Asia Pacific.” Organisations deploying AI technologies in real-world settings increasingly require secure and connected infrastructure near data sources.

Over S$4.3 billion of the investment is allocated for new data centre developments. These expansions build on Digital Realty’s existing investments and highlight Singapore’s role as an AI infrastructure anchor in the region.

The Singapore workforce of Digital Realty has nearly doubled over the past three years, now exceeding 300 employees. By 2030, the company expects to expand its workforce to 400, creating high-value jobs in digital infrastructure and emerging technologies.

AI Hub Development Plans

In the latter half of 2026, the launch of the Digital Realty Innovation Lab at the Loyang facility is expected. This lab will provide a fully supported environment for customers to develop, test, and validate AI and hybrid cloud solutions prior to wider deployment.

Investing in Singapore’s broader digital infrastructure ecosystem is also a priority for Digital Realty. The company collaborates with partners on early-stage quantum data centre initiatives, preparing for the next frontier of computational advancements.

Digital Realty relocated and expanded its Asia Pacific regional office within Singapore to IOI Central Boulevard in July 2025. Further expansion is anticipated in 2026, supporting the region’s growing needs for robust digital infrastructure.

Enhancing Singapore’s ecosystem through operational and innovation capabilities is another focus for Digital Realty. Its Global Command Centre in Singapore operates as a 24/7 monitoring hub, reinforcing the country’s role as a trusted base for critical digital infrastructure operations.

Earlier this year, the company hosted a Digital AI Open House for students from the National University of Singapore’s Tembusu College. This event connected students with industry developments and showcased potential career paths in AI and digital infrastructure.
