Community-Centric Design by Educators
ELK Early Learning & Kindergarten has opened in Bedford, Perth. It offers a unique childcare experience crafted by educators and parents. The centre aims to make childcare a stress-free decision for local families. Built by mums themselves, ELK is proudly educator-owned. It was founded by experienced early childhood teachers who wanted to create the kind of centre they’d happily send their own children to.
Jenna Ferguson, one of the owners and Director of the centre, said, “At ELK, families are never rushed. We know mornings are busy and emotions are big. We’ve created a space where you can take a breath and know your child is in the best possible hands before you walk out the door.”
The centre incorporates internationally recognised approaches such as Circle of Security, Slow Pedagogy, and the Reggio Emilia philosophy to foster secure bonds and creativity. Natural materials, secure bonds with consistent educators, and outdoor play spaces are key features.
ELK has been designed by early childhood teachers who know exactly what today’s parents are looking for: a calm, nurturing space where their child is truly known. Drop-offs never feel rushed because ELK focuses on creating a warm, light-filled environment. Visitors first notice a warm, light-filled lounge with relaxed seating, a coffee bar, and breakfast offerings.
ELK Early Learning & Kindergarten has opened this year in the leafy Bayswater pocket of Bedford. Expansive outdoor environments encourage children to climb, dig, explore, and build confidence through open-ended play. Indoors, flexible learning spaces support creativity, collaboration, and early STEAM learning (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics). Educators guide children by following their interests rather than adhering to a rigid timetable.
Open Day Invitation
ELK is hosting a Community Open Day on Saturday, 11 April, from 10 am to 1 pm. Families can tour the centre, meet educators, and enjoy complimentary coffee. Bayswater Mayor Filomena Piffaretti and MP Frank Paolino will attend to show their support for this community initiative. The event offers a chance to see firsthand how ELK’s design and philosophy benefit children and families.
Private tours and waitlist spots are available for interested families. To make arrangements, families can book online through the ELK website or contact the centre directly. The Open Day aims to provide a welcoming atmosphere where parents can ask questions, explore the facilities, and understand the benefits of a community-centric childcare approach.
