Join the Community Event to Support Dementia Awareness
The 2026 Memory Walk & Jog is set to take place on Saturday, 2 May, at Lake Wendouree Gardens. This significant event unites the community to combat dementia, a condition affecting countless Australians. Dementia Australia organizes this annual fundraiser, which is the largest of its kind, to support the 446,500 Australians living with dementia and the 1.7 million people involved in their care.
The Memory Walk & Jog event encourages participants to get active, fostering connections and raising essential awareness and funds. In 2026, the state of Victoria alone estimates that 113,900 residents will be living with dementia, underscoring the severity of this health issue. Dementia is currently the leading cause of death in Australia, which highlights the necessity of initiatives like the Memory Walk & Jog.
Get Involved and Make a Difference
This year, 14 Memory Walk & Jog events are scheduled nationwide, providing Australians with numerous opportunities to participate. The Ballarat event is one such opportunity, inviting individuals to walk, jog, or run in support of Dementia Australia. Proceeds from these events will fund vital support services, innovative research, and life-changing programs.
Participants can sign up online to join the event or volunteer at memorywalk.com.au/event/ballarat/home. Those unable to attend can still contribute through the MyWay initiative, which allows individuals to organize their own events. Choose any date and location, then register at memorywalk.com.au/get-involved/mw.
As more Australians are affected by dementia, it becomes increasingly important to raise funds and awareness. By participating, individuals help move towards a future where dementia no longer severely impacts Australian families. Dementia Australia provides trusted information, education, and services, supporting those impacted by dementia to live as well as possible.
