First Asian facility adds capacity for doctors across the region
HistoSonics has opened an expanded Histotripsy Training Centre at Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong, adding capacity for doctors from across Asia to train on the technology.
Originally launched in May 2025, the site was Asia’s first histotripsy training facility. Since then, it has hosted physicians from across the region for hands-on training and clinical observation.
According to HistoSonics, the larger centre will meet rising demand for histotripsy training in Asia. Programmes now include more hands-on sessions, multidisciplinary teaching and clinical observation.
Physicians training at the centre receive instruction on patient selection, treatment planning, procedural workflow and how to build histotripsy programmes in their own hospitals.
Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong partnership
Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong has served as HistoSonics’ regional Centre of Excellence for physician education since 2025. Following the expansion, the two organisations plan to deepen work on physician training, clinical research and future technology development.
Mike Blue, chairman and chief executive of HistoSonics, said: “Hong Kong has been at the forefront of histotripsy adoption and physician education in Asia.”
Blue linked the larger centre to stronger regional demand and to HistoSonics’ push to help physicians deliver the treatment safely and effectively.
Dr Kenneth Tsang is regional chief executive of IHH Healthcare North Asia and chief executive of Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong. He said the hospital’s teaching role covers physician education, clinical research and partnerships that turn new technology into safe patient treatments.
Senior clinicians tied to the Hong Kong programme include Prof. Albert Chan, director of the Liver Cancer Surgery Centre, and Dr Vince Lau, director of the Interventional Radiology Centre at Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong.
Dr Angus Yuen, chief medical officer at Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong, also appeared in the release photo alongside Dr Joe Herman, HistoSonics vice president of medical affairs, Jay Lee, APAC regional manager, Eric Kwong, Hong Kong sales manager at Transmedic, and Matt Brown, director of OUS professional education.
