Enhancing Healthcare with AI and Technology

Gateway Health, a leading not-for-profit community health service in Australia, recently implemented the InterSystems TrakCare community solution, marking a significant step in healthcare technology integration. InterSystems, a prominent data technology provider, collaborated with Gateway Health over six months to co-design this solution.

Tailored specifically for Australian community health services, the new TrakCare system incorporates features like the Encounter Record, Outpatient Planner, and TrakCare Assistant, streamlining workflows and improving data quality. These enhancements aim to boost staff productivity significantly.

The implementation of TrakCare aims to enable the adoption of advanced technologies, including AI. Trent Dean, CEO of Gateway Health, stated, “The new TrakCare solution is a step forward in how we support our clinicians and deliver care.” With an intuitive interface, the system improves workflows, setting Gateway Health up for future digital transformation.

Carolyn Foote, the Data and Information Coordinator at Gateway Health, highlighted, “The new Encounter Record shows everything on one page and is a big productivity improvement.” This feature ensures that the right data is entered for the right client, enhancing data accuracy.

Gateway Health provides comprehensive health and wellbeing support across North East Victoria and Southern New South Wales. Their services include general practice, district nursing, allied health, mental health, NDIS, addiction, LGBTIQASB+ and aged care services with hubs in Wodonga, Wangaratta, and Myrtleford.

AI Integration and Future Plans

Following its successful implementation, the organisation plans to roll out SMS appointment reminders, enhancing client communication. They are also exploring mobile access for consultations and considering AI applications to improve client interactions.

To ensure the TrakCare solution met local needs, a working group of Australian community health providers was established. This collaborative effort was crucial in creating a sustainable technology platform that addresses the unique challenges of community health services.

The new system allows Gateway Health to capture more detailed information about episodes of care, including previously unreported contact minutes. This capability enhances their ability to link activities to funding and outcomes, demonstrating that they are meeting both contractual obligations and community health needs.

TrakCare’s features, such as the appointment planner, are designed to set Gateway Health up for the next phase of digital transformation, ensuring better health outcomes for the community.
