Jobs and Skills Australia Launches TOP
On April 23, 2026, Jobs and Skills Australia launched an innovative online tool named the Training to Occupation Pathways (TOP) dataset. This tool aims to simplify the process of identifying career paths and the necessary training qualifications for Australians. TOP allows users to explore a wide array of occupations linked to various Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications, making it easier to plan career changes or consider future opportunities.
Trevor Gauld, the Deputy Commissioner of JSA, stated, “We want Australians to understand the power of a VET qualification to place you in the career of your dreams.” This statement underscores the tool’s potential impact on career planning.
Enhancing Career Planning with Data Insights
With data-driven insights, the TOP tool assists individuals and career practitioners in understanding how to build on existing skills and experience through additional training. The tool provides clear and accessible data on qualifications and career pathways, which is extremely valuable for workplace planning.
Gauld added, “Whether you’re interested in the building industry or passionate about the creative arts, Jobs and Skills Australia has the data to help you pursue your passion.” This highlights the tool’s versatility in catering to diverse interests.
The initial release of the TOP dataset will continue to evolve with stakeholder input and as qualifications change. JSA plans to refine the tool based on feedback and identified use cases. As a result, it will remain a continuously improving resource for career planning and workforce development.
TOP is part of JSA’s broader efforts to support workforce planning with analytical tools that help individuals and organisations comprehend pathways to employment. The tool not only supports individuals but also provides employers with data to understand how qualifications can build on existing skills or identify which training courses make employees job-ready immediately.
