Lidl Becomes a Mobile Virtual Network Operator
An exciting new chapter in mobile telecommunications is unfolding as Lidl and 1GLOBAL announce a strategic partnership. Set to take effect on 13th April 2026, this collaboration will enable Lidl to function as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) across Europe. By doing so, Lidl aims to redefine mobile freedom with a focus on flexibility, simplicity, and affordability.
The Schwarz Group, the parent company of Lidl, is acquiring a 9.9 per cent stake in 1GLOBAL. This move positions 1GLOBAL as the exclusive technology partner for Lidl's mobile services over the next five years. As a result, the partnership opens new growth opportunities for established telecommunications providers.
Hakan Koç, founder and CEO of 1GLOBAL, emphasised in his statement, "Lidl is the partner that shares our vision: We want to make mobile communications as intuitive, flexible, and digital as possible for millions of people. Our technology is designed to meet the needs of users and their devices."
Affordable and Flexible Plans
A key component of the initiative involves offering simple, affordable, and high-quality mobile plans without the burden of long-term contracts. To address regional needs effectively, Lidl will collaborate with local mobile network operators, utilising its Lidl Connect and Lidl Plus platforms to maximise customer engagement.
Julian Beer, Executive Vice President of Purchasing at Lidl International, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, "We are democratizing mobile communications. Simple, affordable, and of the highest quality. We are very much looking forward to collaborating with 1GLOBAL."
With over 12,600 stores and more than 100 million customers engaged through the Lidl Plus loyalty app, Lidl has a substantial platform for customer acquisition and service delivery. This reach ensures that Lidl can offer tailored mobile solutions to a diverse customer base, enhancing the overall telecommunications market.
The strategic partnership includes the development of innovative telco solutions on STACKIT, the Schwarz Group’s cloud solution. A key focus here is on data sovereignty and the secure handling of customer data, ensuring that privacy remains a top priority in all offerings.
As the exclusive technology partner, 1GLOBAL will provide the necessary technical platform and telecommunications licenses, which are currently active in twelve countries, with plans to expand to more than 30 countries in the future. This expansion is expected to significantly enhance Lidl's capabilities in the telecommunications sector.
