Facility Set to Begin Production by Q4 2026
Prairie Lithium Limited (ASX:PL9) is approaching a significant milestone as its commercial-scale Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) facility in Saskatchewan, Canada, nears completion. The first production is targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026.
Construction of the building’s interior is expected to finish by the second quarter of 2026. Equipment installation will follow in the third quarter, ensuring the project remains on schedule. Key infrastructure, such as production wells and powerlines, has been completed.
Paul Lloyd, Managing Director of Prairie Lithium, stated, “This update marks a critical step as we execute the construction that prepares us for commissioning and first production. The DLE facility is nearing completion, and equipment installation is scheduled for the coming months, keeping us on track for Q4 2026 production.”
Strategically Positioned for Market Supply
Located in Saskatchewan, the project leverages established oil and gas infrastructure. This strategic position enables Prairie Lithium to supply North American and Asian battery markets, supporting the diversification of global lithium supply chains.
Under a binding offtake agreement with South Korea’s Hydro Lithium, Phase 1 will produce 150 tonnes per annum of lithium carbonate equivalent. This agreement secures demand and provides revenue visibility, reducing project risk.
The project is backed by a 4.6 million tonne LCE resource base. A pad-by-pad development model offers potential for expansion to meet the growing demand for lithium, driven by the global energy transition.
Milestones include completing facility construction, installing equipment, and commissioning the DLE plant, all leading to first production in Q4 2026.
Existing infrastructure, such as powerlines and transformers, is already in place, ensuring smooth operations and connectivity for the facility.
Hydro Lithium will supply approximately A$10 million worth of proprietary refining equipment. This contribution lowers the project’s capital intensity and enhances production capabilities.
The completed facility aims to be among the first lithium brine producers in North America. By serving a rapidly growing global market, Prairie Lithium plans to play a significant role in the energy transition.
Looking ahead, Prairie Lithium’s scalable strategy offers a clear path to expanding production. This expansion is aligned with the increasing global demand for battery-grade lithium, delivering long-term value to stakeholders.
