Partnership Aims for Sustainable Textile Innovation

The LYCRA Company, a leader in innovative and sustainable fibre solutions, recently announced a strategic partnership with Texhong International Group, one of the world’s largest suppliers of core-spun cotton textiles. This collaboration introduces renewable LYCRA fibre with 30 per cent plant-based content to China’s core-spun yarn sector.

Jason Wang, Vice President, Asia, The LYCRA Company, stated, “This strategic partnership fully underscores The LYCRA Company’s leading capabilities in sustainable fibre innovation and industrial application. Renewable LYCRA fibre already boasts a mature foundation for commercial adoption.”

The renewable LYCRA fiber, partly derived from dent corn, is expected to maintain the elasticity, comfort, and durability of traditional LYCRA while potentially reducing carbon emissions by up to 32 per cent. This initiative is part of The LYCRA Company’s efforts to develop more sustainable materials. A recent Cradle-to-Gate Life Cycle Assessment highlighted these environmental benefits.

Texhong’s Role in the Partnership

Texhong will leverage its well-established textile value chain to develop customised core-spun yarn products using the new fiber. The aim is to provide a sustainable solution from bio-derived raw materials to yarn manufacturing, enhancing the environmental profile of their products.

Zhou Xia, Chief Operating Officer of Texhong, emphasised their dedication to innovation, stating, “Texhong has long been dedicated to the R&D and manufacturing of high-value-added cotton textiles and core-spun yarn products. Partnering with The LYCRA Company will bring new breakthroughs in bio-based material applications and further improve product sustainability.”

Looking ahead, both companies will focus on collaborative innovation in bio-derived spandex materials, yarn manufacturing, and brand end-use applications. This partnership aims to drive the widespread adoption of lower-impact, innovative materials across the textile industry.

Following this partnership, Texhong plans to integrate the renewable LYCRA fibre into its production lines later this year, marking the beginning of a new phase in their collaboration. By working closely with value chain partners, they aim to continuously drive the adoption of sustainable practices in the industry.
