New Activities Unveiled for Autumn Holidays
SYDNEY — The Australian National Maritime Museum has announced a comprehensive school holiday program, offering a variety of activities for children and families. Running daily from 10:30 am to 4 pm, the programme includes creative workshops, interactive exhibits, and themed events, according to a statement released on March 17.
The Aquatic Imaginarium, a popular attraction from previous years, returns to provide sensory installations and educational activities. Visitors can engage in art-making, explore underwater environments through drone operations, and participate in museum tours. The museum confirmed that activities are suitable for children aged 4-14 and their families, with entry included in any paid admission.
Interactive Experiences Await Visitors
The programme offers a diverse range of experiences such as the ‘Cabinet of Curiosities: Creature Feature’, allowing participants to handle marine specimens. Fridays feature ‘Fintastic Fridays – Dress Up Disco Day’, where families can enjoy music, costumes, and themed snacks. These events are designed to promote creativity and learning in a fun environment.
In addition to the holiday program, the museum is hosting ‘Sensory Friendly Days’ on April 19, providing an inclusive experience for visitors with different sensory needs. This initiative aligns with a growing trend in museums to accommodate diverse audiences, enhancing accessibility and engagement.
Alex Gonzalez, a spokesperson for the museum, emphasised the importance of these programmes in fostering a connection with Australia’s maritime heritage. “Our goal is to inspire and educate through immersive and interactive experiences,” Gonzalez said. the museum plans to incorporate new technology into its exhibits, aiming to offer a modern perspective on maritime history. This includes virtual reality experiences that allow visitors to explore shipwrecks and historical maritime events in an engaging way.
