Mondo Gelateria launches artisanal gelato venue on Elizabeth Street
Mondo Gelateria will open a new venue on Elizabeth Street in Melbourne CBD on Friday, 23rd January, introducing an artisanal gelato concept inspired by flavours from across the globe. The venue will operate seven days a week from 7:30 AM to 11:30 PM.
Founded by gelato artist Rio Olivetti, the business draws on formal training under Stefano Tarquinio, Head of Carpigiani Gelato University in Bologna. As a result, the menu has been developed around technical gelato methods combined with international flavour references.

The Elizabeth Street venue is located within a 150-year-old building redesigned by Melbourne-based studio Aydnco Commercial Interiors. The fit-out retains heritage features while incorporating contemporary finishes, including restored cornices, a coffered ceiling, and a central lighting installation that references the brand’s sun emblem.
Menu and concept details
The gelato offering will rotate across 28 flavours, with five permanent selections remaining available year-round. These include Black Forest Gâteau, Pistachio Crunch, Salted Caramel, Chocolate Fudge Brownie and Lemon Cheesecake. In addition, rotating flavours reference regions including China, Japan, Italy and the United States.

Alongside gelato, the venue will produce a daily range of pastries and cakes led by Taiwanese pastry chefs Peini Yu and Jasper Yang. Yu previously held the head pastry chef role at Nice Prince Hotel and Fuli Resort in Taiwan, while Yang has worked at Ivy Sweet. The pastry range will include seasonal cakes, petit gâteaux, éclairs, brioche and cookies.
Two signature gelato cakes will be available, including a Black Forest Gelato Cake and a Yuzu Pistachio Mousse Cake. These cakes combine gelato layers with sponge, mousse and chocolate finishes.

A dedicated aperitif bar will offer gelato flights paired with infused flavours such as limoncello, elderflower and native fruits. Furthermore, a rotating monthly concept will introduce new flavour themes tied to international regions.
Coffee service will feature beans from Veneziano Roasters, with both traditional espresso and cold-brew based drinks available. Several house-developed beverages combine coffee with ingredients such as matcha, citrus, honey and botanical elements.

The venue will also cater to late-night trade, with takeaway gelato available until close. As a result, the operating hours position the venue across morning, daytime and evening service periods.
Mondo Gelateria’s opening adds a new dessert-focused hospitality venue to Elizabeth Street, expanding the CBD’s late-trading food offering.
