Pacifica and Marriott plan Japan's first Westin Resort in Furano

Pacifica Hotels G.K. And its subsidiary Furano Hospitality G.K. Have signed a franchise agreement with Marriott International to open Westin Hokkaido Furano Resort in Furano, Hokkaido.

The companies announced the deal on 2 September 2026 in Tokyo. Opening is scheduled for summer 2029.

The property will be the first Westin Resort in Japan and the first Westin hotel in Hokkaido. It is planned with 195 guest rooms and suites.

Facilities listed for the resort include multiple restaurants, indoor baths, outdoor baths and a spa. The site is a short walk from Kitanomine Gondola Station and is expected to have views of the nearby mountain range.

Construction started in August 2026, nearly three years before the planned opening window in summer 2029.

Dining plans highlight Hokkaido produce

Food plans include an Omakase counter restaurant and an all-day dining outlet. According to Pacifica, the kitchens will use Hokkaido seafood, meat, dairy and vegetable products.

Seth Sulkin, chief executive of Pacifica Hotels G.K. And Furano Hospitality G.K., said, “We expect Westin Furano to immediately become the leading hotel in Furano and to help expand the area’s profile among inbound visitors.”

Sulkin also pointed to Furano’s year-round appeal. He said the area draws visitors in summer for its large lavender fields and in winter for powder snow.

Deal marks new segment for Pacifica

The franchise agreement marks Pacifica Hotels’ entry into upper upscale hotels and resort properties. Until now, the company has focused on operating international branded hotels under franchise agreements.

Its current operating track record includes Moxy, Fairfield by Marriott, Courtyard by Marriott, City Express by Marriott, Garner by IHG, and Holiday Inn & Suites.

The announcement did not disclose the value of the project.
