Jesuit Social Services says Shahleena Musk's exit is a loss

Shahleena Musk has resigned as Northern Territory Children’s Commissioner, drawing criticism from Jesuit Social Services.

In a statement, the organisation thanked the outgoing commissioner for her service and contribution to the well-being of Territory children.

Julie Edwards, chief executive of Jesuit Social Services, called the resignation a serious loss to the Northern Territory.

Edwards said Musk had made “a very substantial contribution” in the role.

According to Jesuit Social Services, Musk consistently gave frank and fearless advice on behalf of children across the Territory.

However, the group also blamed the Northern Territory Government for the circumstances around her exit.

Edwards said it was disappointing that the government had created conditions where “such a strong advocate for children feels she has to resign”.

Jesuit Social Services framed the departure as more than a routine staffing change. It linked Musk’s resignation to the loss of an independent advocate for children.

Meanwhile, the statement kept its focus on two points: Musk’s record in office and the impact of her departure on Territory children.
