Dr Sam Shahin stated, “Securing WorldSBK is a significant achievement for The Bend and today’s announcement marks a historic day for motorsport and for South Australia.”

Economic and Tourism Impact

The inaugural event at The Bend is expected to draw thousands of interstate and international visitors. This influx will boost tourism and economic activity in South Australia. Premier Peter Malinauskas emphasised the event’s potential to reinforce the state’s reputation as Australia’s motorsport capital.

Premier Malinauskas said, “Securing WorldSBK further strengthens South Australia’s position as Australia’s motorsport capital and will deliver significant economic, tourism, and profile benefits across the state.”

The Bend, known for its advanced facilities and international competition capabilities, will host this prestigious championship featuring motorcycles from top manufacturers like Yamaha, Ducati, Honda, BMW, and Kawasaki. The championship will bring top teams and riders to South Australia, creating a platform that will showcase the venue and the state’s passionate motorsport community to a global audience.

WorldSBK and MotoGP are the two pinnacles of world championship motorcycle racing, both sanctioned by Motorcycling Australia and FIM, the global governing body. MotoGP is contested on purpose-built prototypes, while WorldSBK is the world’s premier production-based championship.
