$41 Million National Target Set for 2026
The Salvation Army is urging the Toowoomba community to participate in the Red Shield Appeal, aiming to raise critical funds to assist locals struggling with increased living costs. The appeal is part of a national effort to collect $41 million.
In its 62nd year, the Red Shield Appeal is Australia’s largest door-knock fundraising initiative, designed to support community programmes across the nation. Funds raised in Toowoomba will directly assist those facing hardship in the local area.
Captain Aaron Reid, leader of The Salvation Army in Toowoomba, highlighted the urgent need for community support, stating, “We know that people are doing it really tough in our community right now, as global uncertainty coupled with further increases in the cost of living locally puts an incredible strain on individuals and families.”
Community Involvement Encouraged
The Salvation Army is calling for local participation, whether through donations or volunteering, to help reach the appeal’s national target. The funds will aid those experiencing financial hardship and provide essential services including housing and meal support.
Last year, The Salvation Army provided over 1.74 million sessions of care and more than 1 million nights of safe accommodation across Australia. These efforts highlight the impact of the Red Shield Appeal on vulnerable communities.
Captain Aaron Reid added, “There is no better way to support those doing it tough than by donating or volunteering with us this year. We can’t do our work in the community without you, so we are calling on people to partner with The Salvation Army this Red Shield Appeal.”
The Red Shield Appeal continues until the end of June, and The Salvation Army aims to enlist 15,000 volunteers nationwide. Interested individuals can learn more about volunteering by visiting salvationarmy.org.au/red-shield-appeal or contacting their local Salvos.
Across Australia, The Salvation Army operates over 400 centres and 2,000 services supporting areas like homelessness, youth, and financial hardship. They provided assistance to one person every 17 seconds and served more than 1.4 million meals to those accessing homelessness services.
Donations can also be made at any Salvos Store.
