KIDS Foundation's Annual Fundraiser

AFL legend Tom Hawkins will join his wife Emma Hawkins for the Tour d'Horse 2026, a major fundraiser by the KIDS Foundation, scheduled from 11 to 17 May in the Upper Hunter Valley.

Emma Hawkins expressed her excitement, saying, "I’m so proud to be returning, and even more special to have Tom alongside me this year."

Tom Hawkins will support the event in a hands-on volunteer role, assisting with operations and engaging with young people at the Foundation's injury and trauma recovery camp.

Emma and Tom Hawkins both grew up in the Riverina region of New South Wales, which has influenced their strong sense of community and connection to the land.

After participating in the 2025 ride, Emma returns with a deepened connection to the KIDS Foundation's mission. Her lifelong love of horses underpins her involvement in Tour d'Horse.

Tom decided to join this year after witnessing the impact of the event through Emma. "I’ve seen firsthand how powerful this experience is through Emma," Tom said. "What really stands out is the resilience of the kids and families, and the role the Foundation plays in helping them rebuild."

Community and Resilience

The Tour d'Horse 2026 will see participants ride through the Upper Hunter Valley, raising funds and awareness for the Foundation’s recovery and resilience programs. Retired racehorses retrained for new careers will be used, symbolising recovery and new beginnings.

The event will run from 11 to 17 May, bringing together voices from media, racing, and equine industries to support the KIDS Foundation.

Dr. Susie O’Neill OAM, the Founder and CEO of the KIDS Foundation, has led the organisation for over 30 years. The Foundation focuses on prevention education, rehabilitation, and resilience-building programs.

Participants ride to honour survivors, raise vital funds, and increase awareness for the Foundation’s work. "Tour d’Horse is more than just a ride," Emma said. "It is a powerful reminder of what people can overcome, and what is possible when a community comes together."

The 2026 event is expected to bring together a diverse community of riders united by a shared purpose. They aim to make a significant impact through their collective efforts.

Melbourne’s biggest moments, straight to you.
