Auction Celebrates Sir Jack Brabham's Legacy

Donington Auctions will soon host ‘A Tribute to Brabham’ auction, starting April 13th, to commemorate Sir Jack Brabham’s 1966 World Championship Silver Jubilee. Among the highlights is the unique Repco-Brabham BT23E single-seater from 1968, maintained in race-ready condition and driven by Sir Jack during the 1968 Tasman series.
Born in 1926, Sir Jack Brabham is renowned as Australia’s most accomplished motor racing driver and constructor. His remarkable career includes three World Driver’s Championships. Notably, he is the only driver to win the title in a car of his own construction.
Racing enthusiasts will find the Repco-Brabham BT23E closely linked to the Formula One cars that secured Constructor’s Championships in 1966 and 1967 with Sir Jack and teammate Denny Hulme. Powered by Repco’s 830 V8 engine, this car raced at Warwick Farm and Sandown before being sold to legendary team owner Bob Jane. John Harvey and Allan Moffat also took the wheel.
Denis Lupton, a Melbourne-based Brabham aficionado, has assembled an extraordinary collection also featured in the auction. Known as Australia’s leading authority on Brabham, Lupton has restored numerous Brabham cars and kept a detailed registry. His collection offers rare competition cars like a 1965 Brabham BT15, a Lynx 1500cc Formula Junior designed by Ron Tauranac, and the ‘Birchwood-Cooper’, an Australian special in project form.
Collectors will be excited to explore over 200 lots of motorsport memorabilia related to Brabham, Tauranac, and Cooper, mostly without reserve. Rare parts include an unused Coventry Climax FPF 2.5-litre engine and a Hewland FT200 gearbox.
A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity awaits those wishing to own a piece of motor racing history. Bidding closes on April 26th, with a full listing available on Donington Auctions’ website. Interested parties can contact Robbie Richards in Melbourne at +61 (0) 419 393 932 or Damien Duigan in Sydney at +61 (0) 449 128 392 for more details.
This auction, titled ‘A Tribute to Brabham – The Anniversary Auction Commemorating the Man, the Marque and his Machines’, brings together a remarkable array of cars, rare parts, and related memorabilia.
The Denis Lupton Collection is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for collectors, and Donington Auctions is honoured to bring this unique offering to market.
Another significant piece of Australian motor racing history is the 1971 MR5 built by Garrie Cooper’s Elfin Sports Cars, further enriching the auction’s catalogue.

Melbourne’s biggest moments, straight to you.
