Unreserved Bidding Fuels Intense Collector Interest

A massive LEGO collection auction at Lloyds Auctions has surpassed $500,000, doubling its initial estimate of $250,000. This auction began after an accidental storage shed discovery, drawing significant international attention from collectors.

Lloyds Auctions confirmed that the rare LEGO collection has exceeded expectations, with thousands more sets still to be auctioned. Originally, the auction estimates were up to $250,000, but early results and strong bidding interest have doubled that expectation.

An additional 1,000 LEGO sets were uploaded this week at Lloyds, and another 2,000 sets are scheduled to arrive by Friday. Each auction lot starts at $1 without any reserve, closing daily at 2pm until all items are sold.

Lee Hames, Chief Operations Officer at Lloyds Auctions, remarked, This collection just keeps on building. Were still uploading auctions as we speak, and the depth of the collection has gone far beyond what we initially anticipated.

Discoveries Add New Dimensions

The auction expanded after discovering hundreds of fully assembled LEGO builds in another storage shed. These include iconic models such as the Titanic, Eiffel Tower, and Colosseum, now available to bidders who prefer ready-made display pieces.

Mr. Hames noted, “These are spectacular builds to see in person. It adds an entirely new dimension to the auction, especially for buyers who want statement display pieces without having to build them from scratch.”

Interest in the auction has been strong both locally and internationally. This highlights LEGO’s growing status as a valuable collectible. Current and future auctions can be viewed and bid on via the Lloyds Auctions website.

Collectors continue to have opportunities to expand their collections with rare and unique LEGO pieces, as more sets are arriving and daily auctions are underway. The unreserved nature and starting bids of $1 have fuelled intense interest.

Lloyds Auctions, a trusted auctioneering company in Australia, has been in operation for over 20 years. They offer a wide range of auctions, including vehicles, machinery, fine art, and now an unprecedented LEGO collection event.

Significant collector interest has been noted from countries such as the United States, Germany, and Japan. This reflects the global appeal of the LEGO brand and its status as a cultural icon. As more sets continue to arrive, expectations remain high for future auctions.

The auction’s success has been bolstered by the variety and rarity of the LEGO sets available. Many of these sets are no longer in production, making them highly sought-after by collectors. This unique auction event has captured the attention of both seasoned collectors and new enthusiasts alike.
