Statewide Impact on Health Services
Victoria’s Women’s Health Services Network (WHSN) celebrates the Victorian Government’s investment in women’s health, announced in the 2026-27 budget on 5th May. This significant commitment centers on women’s health investment, providing crucial support for women and gender diverse individuals.
Funding for the next year is set to support preventative health promotion, education, and primary prevention across Victoria. Such efforts aim to enhance wellbeing, safety, economic participation, and social inclusion while reducing long-term costs to the health system.
Access to critical health and wellbeing services will be guaranteed thanks to continued funding, regardless of geographical location. Statewide infrastructure will benefit from this initiative to prevent family violence and provide specialist expertise in multicultural health, disability, and rural health.
Community Benefits and Support
Collaboration with the government will help advance equitable environments for all Victorians, according to the Victorian Women’s Health Services Network. This partnership aims to increase healthcare access for underserved communities, including those living with disabilities, multicultural groups, and people in rural and outer metropolitan areas.
Dr. Adele Murdolo, Chair of WHSN and CEO of the Multicultural Centre for Women’s Health, highlighted the importance of sustained support: “When communities are struggling with cost-of-living pressures and uncertainty, it is particularly vital that those who need it most have the ongoing and sustained support of their local women’s health service.”
A unique aspect of WHSN is its status as the only network of its kind in Australia, comprising 12 state government-funded women’s health services. This coordinated approach aims to ensure the best possible health outcomes for women and gender diverse Victorians.
The WHSN announcement is available on their website, detailing the investment’s impact and future collaboration plans with the Victorian government. The network is eager to continue supporting communities through these efforts.
Victoria is the only Australian state with such extensive infrastructure and reach, supporting the health system in creating optimal health outcomes. The Victorian Women’s Health Programme funds WHSN, enabling it to operate as a coordinated network comprising both specialist and place-based services across the state.
Established in 2021, the Victorian Women’s Health Services Network has consistently worked towards improving health outcomes for women. Since its inception, the network has been instrumental in providing critical services across the state, positively impacting thousands of lives.
