Intelligent Commerce Connect Unveiled

Visa Inc. (NYSE: V) today introduced Intelligent Commerce Connect, a groundbreaking solution designed to facilitate AI-driven shopping for businesses globally. The launch was announced on April 8, 2023, in San Francisco. This innovative tool is part of the Visa Intelligent Commerce portfolio and aims to simplify how businesses engage with AI-powered commerce.

Andrew Torre, President of Value-Added Services at Visa, emphasised the importance of this development: “Intelligent Commerce Connect brings that same, trusted payment acceptance infrastructure into the emerging world of AI-driven commerce, so businesses can let AI agents buy on behalf of consumers, securely and at scale.”

Intelligent Commerce Connect enables secure payment initiation, tokenization, spend controls, and authentication through a single integration via the Visa Acceptance Platform. This solution integrates both Visa Intelligent Commerce APIs and other networks’ APIs, which allows agents to pay using both Visa and non-Visa cards, offering a wider range of payment options.

Pilot Programme and Expansion

Currently in its pilot phase, Intelligent Commerce Connect is being tested with select partners such as Aldar, AWS, Diddo, Highnote, Mesh, Payabli, and Sumvin. Visa plans to expand the solution to additional partners by the end of 2023. This expansion aims to incorporate more businesses into the AI-powered commerce ecosystem.

The solution supports enablers in processing agentic transactions on behalf of merchants, ensuring orchestration and PCI compliance. This feature simplifies the integration process for businesses while maintaining high security standards.

Intelligent Commerce Connect is compatible with major token vault providers. This compatibility allows agent platforms to utilise existing credential infrastructures, providing flexibility and preventing vendor lock-in.

Merchants benefit from seamless acceptance of agent-initiated payments through major agent protocols, including Trusted Agent Protocol, Machine Payments Protocol, Agentic Commerce Protocol, and Universal Commerce Protocol. This seamless integration helps merchants easily adapt to AI-driven commerce.

The solution makes merchant catalogs discoverable on AI platforms, enabling consumers to discover, select, and check out products within the AI experience. This feature enhances the shopping experience by providing easy access to product information and facilitating transactions.
