Visa Enhances Role in Stablecoin Payments

Visa has joined the Tempo network as an anchor validator, officially launching its validator node on the Tempo blockchain. This marks a significant milestone in Visa’s ongoing efforts to lead in blockchain infrastructure and stablecoin payments.

The announcement was made on 14th April 2026, highlighting Visa’s commitment to advancing blockchain operations in-house. This development underscores Visa’s dedication to strengthening onchain payment innovation.

Tempo is a next-generation blockchain designed for agentic commerce and real-time payments. By expanding its validator ecosystem to include major financial and commerce partners, Tempo has welcomed Visa, Stripe, and Zodia Custody by Standard Chartered as its first external validators. Additional participants are expected to join soon, further enhancing the network.

Cuy Sheffield, Head of Crypto at Visa, explained, “We’ve spent years building our expertise in blockchain, and now we’re expanding that work by running critical blockchain infrastructure ourselves.” This strategic move extends Visa’s commitment to reliability, security, and trust within blockchain networks, supporting the development of robust stablecoin payment systems.

Visa’s Integration with Tempo

Visa’s validator node was configured and is managed in-house after six months of collaboration with Tempo’s engineering team. This integration places Visa at the heart of transaction validation, enhancing the network’s security, reliability, and performance.

Nischay Upadhyayula from Tempo commented, “Visa processes billions of transactions across nearly every country in the world. That kind of operational rigor is exactly what we look for in validators on Tempo, built for payments at enterprise scale.”

By operating as an anchor validator during this initial phase, Visa is helping ensure Tempo operates with the reliability, resilience, and performance required for emerging payment use cases. This strategic participation is seen as a natural extension of Visa’s longstanding expertise in payment systems.

Visa’s involvement in Tempo supports the overall security of the network and ensures it operates with the reliability and resilience required for emerging payment use cases. This validator launch aligns with Visa’s ongoing roadmap for blockchain-driven payment innovation. It reflects Visa’s commitment to shaping the future of stablecoin payments by working alongside partners to enhance resilience, interoperability, and security across the ecosystem.

Visa’s validator node has been configured and managed in-house, following six months of joint work with Tempo’s engineering team to directly integrate Visa’s secure infrastructure to the Tempo network. The launch underscores Visa’s commitment to running critical blockchain operations in-house and strengthening the foundations of onchain payment innovation.
