Agreement and Strategic Collaboration Details

Anson Resources and POSCO Holdings have approved a binding agreement to develop a Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) demonstration plant at the Green River Lithium Project in Utah, USA. The announcement was made on 13th May 2026. POSCO Holdings will design, construct, and operate the demonstration plant at its own expense, with the aim of validating lithium extraction at an industrial scale. The company will also pay Anson Resources a facilitation fee of approximately AUD $7.2 million (USD $5.2 million). Bruce Richardson, Executive Chairman and CEO of Anson Resources, stated, “Securing a definitive agreement with POSCO represents a transformational step forward for the Green River Lithium Project.”

The board approvals mark a significant progression from the previously announced Memorandum of Understanding on 30th June 2025. This agreement sets a framework under which POSCO will manage the non-commercial plant operations. Anson Resources will provide property access and brine supply from the Bosydaba #1 well. The definitive agreement is expected to be signed by the end of the second quarter of 2026, setting the stage for the next steps in the project.

Operations at the plant are anticipated to commence in 2027 and conclude by 2028. During this period, both companies will explore further commercial opportunities within the U.S. critical minerals supply chain. The collaboration positions Green River as a key participant in the U.S. domestic battery materials supply chain, demonstrating strong industry validation of its low-cost lithium potential. POSCO Holdings expressed that this partnership will aid in validating DLE technology in the U.S. and contribute to strengthening the North American lithium supply chain.

This collaboration accelerates technical de-risking through continuous demonstration-scale testing and positions the Green River Project as a potential cornerstone asset in the emerging U.S. critical minerals and battery supply chain. The agreement between Anson and POSCO highlights the strategic importance of the Green River Lithium Project in the context of global lithium demand and the push for sustainable energy solutions.
