Juliet Lamont Shares Harrowing Experience

Australian women involved in the Global Sumud Flotilla have called on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to address allegations of sexual and physical abuse by Israeli forces. Their demands follow allegations of mistreatment during the flotilla mission to Gaza, aimed at delivering food, medicine, and baby formula to children.

Returning from the mission, Australian filmmaker Juliet Lamont claims she faced severe beatings, torture, and sexual violence while in Israeli custody. Her account has intensified calls for a government response to these alleged abuses.

“They knew my name when they dragged me onto the deck. I was cable tied. My hands and ankles were shackled,” Lamont stated. “They put so much water over my face I couldn’t breathe. Every time I tried to get away from the water, they’d slap me again. I thought my number was up.”

Lamont traveled on the mission alongside her daughter Isla. She is available today for radio, television, and print interviews. Her account comes as Israeli armed forces are blacklisted by the United Nations for conflict-related sexual violence. Evidence from flotilla participants is being taken to the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

International Scrutiny and Demands

The allegations come amid increasing international scrutiny. Meanwhile, the Australian delegation is urging Prime Minister Albanese to meet with survivors, expel the Israeli Ambassador, and halt military trade with Israel. These demands reflect a broader call for accountability and justice.

Juliet Lamont’s experiences highlight the need for immediate action. Further interviews with her can be arranged through Subhi Awad, the media contact for the Global Sumud Flotilla’s Australian delegation.
