Australian Filmmaker Reports Torture and Violence
Australian filmmaker and humanitarian Juliet Lamont has reported experiencing torture and abuse while in Israeli custody following her participation in the Global Sumud Flotilla mission to Gaza. She attempted to deliver food, medicine, and baby formula to children in need.
Lamont claims she was subjected to severe beatings and sexual violence during her detention. She recounted her horrific experience, stating, “They knew my name when they dragged me onto the deck. I was cable tied. My hands and ankles were shackled. They put so much water over my face I couldn’t breathe. Every time I tried to get away from the water, they’d slap me again.”
The ordeal took place while Lamont traveled with her daughter Isla on the humanitarian mission. Her allegations emerge as Israeli armed forces face increased international scrutiny, having recently been blacklisted by the United Nations for conflict-related sexual violence.
International Reactions and Investigations
Accounts from flotilla participants are being collected for submission to the International Criminal Court in The Hague. This development intensifies international pressure on Israeli authorities regarding their treatment of detainees.
The Australian delegation has outlined several objectives in response. These include a meeting with Prime Minister Albanese, the expulsion of the Israeli Ambassador for allegedly misleading Australians, and an immediate cessation of military trade with Israel.
Juliet Lamont, along with her daughters Isla and Luca, continues to advocate for the Palestinian cause. Her involvement in the mission reflects a family commitment to standing in solidarity with Palestinians against deliberate starvation.
Juliet is available today for radio, television, and print interviews, further spreading awareness about the issues she faced and the broader humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Her bravery and determination to continue the fight highlight the urgent need for international intervention.
The Global Sumud Flotilla mission underscores the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, highlighting the urgent need for international intervention and support for those affected by the conflict.
