New Alabama facility lifts drone output above 5,000 a year
Boresight Ltd has signed a lease for a new 812 square metre manufacturing facility in Huntsville, Alabama, to expand US manufacturing of its aerial target drones.
The ASX-listed company said the site is about 15 times larger than its current US facility. As a result, Boresight expects a major jump in output for US military and industry customers.
The three-year lease includes extension options. Boresight has already taken occupancy, and it will move production from the existing site between August 2026 and 30 September 2026.
Initially, the Huntsville facility will be able to manufacture more than 5,000 BQ-400 aerial target drones a year. Later, Boresight plans to add the BQ-750 Block 2 and the rest of its product range for the US market.
Boresight will invest in extra 3D printing equipment and related technology to support the higher output. Justin Olde said the new facility lets production rise from the hundreds to the thousands.
Olde said, “This new facility will allow Boresight to expand and scale our manufacturing capacity to meet surging demand from our US based customers, both the military and industry.”
US manufacturing also gives Boresight a “Made in the USA” position. That reduces exposure to import tariffs and trade policy risk while cutting delivery lead times and freight costs.
Huntsville has been part of Boresight’s US plans since 2023, when the company established its US entity there. The Alabama city is a key US defence and Counter-Uncrewed Aerial Systems hub.
Olde linked direct supply from Huntsville to faster response times for customer requirements. He also tied the local base to lower logistics costs and less exposure to possible US government tariff changes.
Fyshwick remains innovation hub
While Huntsville becomes the scale-up base for the US market, Boresight’s Fyshwick facility in Australia will remain central to the business. Fyshwick will keep making products for non-US customers and stay the company’s innovation hub.
That dual-hub model splits production by market. Huntsville supports larger US volumes, while Fyshwick continues product development and non-US manufacturing.
