Increased AI Demand Drives Major Investments by Hyperscalers

SYDNEY — Global expenditure on cloud infrastructure surged by 29% in the fourth quarter of 2025, reaching $110.9 billion, according to a report by technology research firm Omdia. This growth marks the sixth consecutive quarter of over 20% expansion, driven primarily by increased investments in AI infrastructure by major cloud providers.

The report highlights that giants like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud have significantly boosted their spending to meet rising enterprise demand for AI capabilities. AWS reported a 24% growth, while Microsoft and Google saw 39% and 50% increases, respectively. This shift underscores the growing importance of robust cloud environments to support AI-driven operations.

Market Leaders Expand AI Capabilities

Omdia’s analysis points to AWS maintaining its lead in the market with a 32% share, thanks to innovations like Amazon Bedrock and Nova Forge which enhance AI customization for enterprises. Microsoft continues to expand its Azure AI Foundry, adding new models to bolster its AI offerings, while Google Cloud has entered a strategic partnership with Apple to advance AI model development.

Rachel Brindley, Senior Director at Omdia, noted, “The challenge for cloud vendors is not only scaling capacity to meet demand but doing so efficiently.” Yi Zhang, Senior Analyst at Omdia, added that the focus is on integrating AI capabilities into existing enterprise systems. The report suggests that the competitiveness in cloud services will increasingly depend on the strength of AI platform capabilities and infrastructure scale.

This trend reflects a broader industry movement towards greater reliance on AI and cloud technologies, as businesses look to optimise operations and enhance data integration through advanced AI solutions.
