Community Participation and Fundraising Success
SYDNEY — The Cronulla community turned out in large numbers last weekend for the 2026 Cronulla Memory Walk & Jog, an event aimed at supporting those affected by dementia. Over 760 participants came together to walk, run, and jog, raising more than $103,430, according to Dementia Australia.
Professor Tanya Buchanan, CEO of Dementia Australia, expressed her gratitude for the community’s support. “There was an incredible turnout from the Cronulla community this year yet again, in support of the many people impacted by dementia across the country,” she said, acknowledging both participants and volunteers who made the event a success.
The Memory Walk & Jog is part of a series of 14 events held nationwide, designed to encourage community engagement and promote brain health through physical activity. Buchanan highlighted the importance of these events in fostering awareness and raising vital funds for dementia research and support.

Professor Buchanan also commended the volunteers, stating, “The day was only possible through the hard work of our wonderful volunteers who always make Memory Walk & Jog a safe, fun and memorable experience for everyone who takes part.”
Dementia Australia continues to offer opportunities for those who missed the event to participate by organizing their own MyWay events, allowing individuals to choose their date and location for a walk or jog. Information on how to get involved can be found on their website.
Dementia affects over 446,500 Australians, with more than 1.7 million people involved in their care. Events like the Cronulla Memory Walk & Jog play a crucial role in raising awareness and supporting the ongoing work to improve the lives of those affected.
