New 200MW AI-Ready Facility Set to Open in 2028
OSAKA — EdgeConneX has commenced construction on a new 200MW AI-ready data centre campus in Greater Osaka, as announced this week. The project, in collaboration with Kagoya Asset Management, marks the company’s significant investment in Japan’s digital infrastructure.
The hyperscale campus will cover 130,000 square meters and is strategically located 30 km from Osaka’s central business district. According to EdgeConneX, the first phase is expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2028. This initiative follows their January 2025 announcement to enter the Japanese market, underscoring their commitment to supporting digital growth in the region.
Strategic Impact and Industry Context
EdgeConneX aims to position Osaka as a hub for cutting-edge IT infrastructure, with plans for a combined 350MW capacity in the region. Sam Lee, Managing Director for EdgeConneX APAC, stated the project would enhance cloud and AI adoption in Osaka. Takashi Kamimura, Mayor of Kyotanabe City, expressed confidence in the facility’s contribution to the local economy.
