International Boarding Campus Opens in 2027
On April 27, 2026, Gordonstoun Japan, in partnership with OCC Educational Corporation Limited, introduced the Impact Challenge Summer 2026. This initiative marks the beginning of Gordonstoun’s first international boarding campus in Wakayama, Japan. The announcement was made in Osaka, Japan.
Renowned for educating British Royal Family members such as HM King Charles III and the late HRH Prince Philip, Gordonstoun is extending its prestigious educational philosophy to Japan. This move represents a significant step in global education.
The Impact Challenge Summer 2026 will be Gordonstoun’s inaugural event in this international expansion. The programme is planned for two sessions from August 2 to 7 and August 15 to 20, 2026, offering an immersive six-day experience focused on leadership and real-world challenges.
Students between the ages of 10 and 14 are encouraged to participate in the programme. They will engage in projects that address marine plastic issues around Tomogashima Island and develop strategies for sustainable economic resilience in Himalayan communities. a selected group will travel to Nepal to observe field implementation firsthand.
Programme Designed for Young Leaders
International humanitarian Linda Cruse, known for her impactful work, designed the programme. As the new Director of Co-Curricular at Gordonstoun Japan, she will bring her Race4Good methodology into the curriculum, which emphasises individual-led change.
Natasha Dangerfield, Founding Principal, expressed her enthusiasm for the school’s expansion, stating, “As Gordonstoun takes this historic step beyond the UK, we are committed to redefining the purpose of education.” She highlighted the programme’s aim to cultivate responsibility and global awareness.
The permanent boarding campus in Wakayama is set to open in the summer of 2027. This expansion will further integrate Gordonstoun’s motto, ‘Plus est en vous,’ meaning ‘There is more in you,’ into an international context.
Gordonstoun is celebrated for combining academic excellence with outdoor education and service. The Impact Challenge signifies the first international adaptation of this esteemed educational model.
