Advancements in Automated Driving Systems
On 25th April, HERE Technologies introduced AI-powered map intelligence to enhance Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) systems during Auto China 2026 in Beijing. The event highlighted HERE Technologies’ commitment to advancing automated driving solutions.
New solutions by HERE enable automakers to deploy consistent Level 2++ automated driving experiences in various international markets. They aim to improve vehicle performance by integrating navigation, automated driving functions, and infrastructure awareness into a single AI-driven road model.
HERE’s Predictive Signal Timing is part of these offerings, providing real-time intersection intelligence to enhance traffic flow and safety. By combining real-time traffic signal data with historical patterns and machine-learned behavior, it predicts signal changes to reduce braking and unnecessary acceleration. This system anticipates traffic signals, adjusts speed smoothly, and supports steadier energy consumption, improving electric vehicle range and lowering emissions.
Lane-Level Guidance for NOA
Enhanced lane-level intelligence, tailored specifically for NOA applications, is being showcased by the company. This technology identifies the safest lanes for vehicles, enabling smoother transitions and more predictable behavior. It helps maintain driver expectations and improves NOA performance globally.
HERE and Lotus announced a new integrated navigation and Highway NOA solution at the event. This collaboration marks the first such offering from a Chinese automaker for international markets. According to Lotus, this partnership emphasises the potential for global scaling of NOA technologies without the need to rebuild solutions for each region.
To accelerate the global rollout, HERE is partnering with leading Chinese technology innovators, including Baidu Maps. Baidu’s involvement aims to enhance the development and deployment of NOA technologies across different regions, ensuring a unified approach to automated driving.
HERE Predictive Signal Timing supports smoother approaches to junctions, improving ETA accuracy and aligning with green-wave traffic patterns. It anticipates traffic signal changes and adjusts speed smoothly. As a result, it supports steadier energy consumption, which helps improve EV range and lower emissions.
The AI-powered road model by HERE serves as a consistent ‘ground truth’ for both human navigation and automated systems, ensuring accuracy and reliability in real-world deployments. Continuous updates to this model help maintain its precision over time, aligning driver expectations with actual vehicle behavior.
As automated driving moves from validation to real-world delivery, automakers must ensure predictable vehicle performance across diverse road networks, regulations, and driving conditions. HERE Technologies addresses these challenges through its innovative solutions. The company’s efforts at Auto China 2026 spotlight the importance of a unified system for automated driving in international markets.
