Sydney Event Brings Together Industry Leaders

The IOWN Global Forum took place on April 29, 2026, in Sydney, attracting over 250 delegates from more than 180 member organisations. Attendees gathered to align business demand with advancements in photonic technologies. The Forum focused on progress in shared architectural blueprints and integration practices, pushing photonics-driven innovation from research into operational environments.

Jefferson Wang, a Board Member of the IOWN Global Forum, led a fireside chat with Ani Satchcroft from Macquarie Asset Management. They explored investment trends in digital infrastructure. Keynote speaker Rika Nakazawa of NTT Data discussed responsible innovation, emphasizing developments at the edge of space and quantum futures. FUTURES Sydney, the public segment of the forum, featured presentations from leading industry experts.

Expert Insights and Presentations

Olivia Shen from the United States Studies Centre presented on AI implementation in a competitive world. Giovanni Chiarelli of TPG Telecom addressed the technological landscape impacting Australia’s telecommunications infrastructure. Masayoshi Namba from MUFG Bank highlighted the potential of All-Photonics Networks in financial services.

A panel on AI infrastructure, security, and sovereignty featured insights from Olivia Shen, Jefferson Wang, and Masahisa Kawashima, moderated by Simon Sharwood of The Register. Discussions centered on AI’s influence on infrastructure and sovereignty challenges.

The forum introduced five new member organisations, including Adtran and Dassault Systèmes, to bolster its global initiatives. New directors elected for 2026 include Per Beming from Ericsson and Derrick Buckley from Microsoft, highlighting a commitment to leadership in digital innovation.
