New Platform to Improve Packaging Decisions
SYDNEY — NielsenIQ has unveiled a new global platform designed to enhance visibility into packaging performance across multiple markets. The Packaging Strategic Planner Global (SPG) Solution, announced today, aims to provide monthly insights into materials, formats, and configurations, addressing a significant gap in packaging data, according to the company.
The SPG Solution offers coverage across more than 200 categories and includes visibility into over 30 package types and 20 materials. Initially available in 10 markets, NIQ plans to expand this system to 30 markets by the end of 2026. Matt Trask, SVP of Global Packaging at NIQ, emphasised that the new EQ2 metric will enable brands to better assess packaging performance by considering actual consumption volumes. This innovative approach marks a significant advancement in how packaging data is analysed and utilised in decision-making processes.
Industry Context and Future Prospects
This announcement comes as the packaging industry faces increasing demands for innovation and sustainability. Many organisations have relied on fragmented data, often limited to annual updates, to guide their packaging strategies. The SPG Solution’s monthly updates aim to provide more timely and actionable insights.
According to NIQ, the EQ2 metric not only measures unit sales but also factors in pack sizes and materials, offering a more comprehensive understanding of market dynamics. This could prove crucial for brands looking to optimise their packaging for varied consumer preferences and environmental regulations.
With operations in over 90 countries, NIQ covers a vast portion of the global market, offering insights drawn from a significant data footprint. As companies increasingly seek data-driven strategies to align with consumer behavior, NIQ’s platform could play a pivotal role in shaping future packaging trends.
